{"id":30,"date":"2011-03-10T21:49:21","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T01:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.freerangepoetry.com\/?p=30"},"modified":"2011-05-10T21:50:22","modified_gmt":"2011-05-11T01:50:22","slug":"between-anger-and-anguish-there-is-fear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.freerangepoetry.com\/?p=30","title":{"rendered":"between anger and anguish, there is fear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A How How How How<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We pray for one last landing on the globe that gave us birth,<br \/>\nbut Confucius say you can\u2019t step into the same river twice.<br \/>\nWhile Guy Montag and Joe Everyman chase the elusive George Washington across<br \/>\nan increasingly cartoon landscape,<br \/>\nthe Eleysian fields are plowed under, paved, and parked upon.<br \/>\nFaded beauty, hazy skies, a valley full of grains<br \/>\nof dust to find us, to rule us all, and in the darkness bind us.<br \/>\nTruth, beauty, beauty, truth, what use such knowledge when<br \/>\nthere is no truth to be seen, no beauty to be found?\u00a0 Dead men<br \/>\nlie in their graves, their lies echoing up from the ground, and we<br \/>\nare swept to action by the kinetic inertia of our past.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A How How How How<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The brakes of the future have failed, and the future is both brake and benzene.<br \/>\nOur mad frenetic pace requires of us every heavy fuel, and while our few helmsmen try<br \/>\nto steer for a gap in the rocks<br \/>\n(they are always trying to steer for a gap in the rocks)<br \/>\nwe urge the engine faster, make it fast and make it faster,<br \/>\nmake unmerciful disaster cry hold, enough and call us master<br \/>\nand when, at last, our dance was done we glowed, as though we\u2019d actually won,<br \/>\nand we looked, as one, to the helm,<br \/>\nand we turned, as one, to the helmsman,<br \/>\nthen we whopped \u2019im, \u2019cause \u2019e couldn\u2019t save us all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A How How How How<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A How How How How We pray for one last landing on the globe that gave us birth, but Confucius say you can\u2019t step into the same river twice.
